Alec Meza Show Review

Updated: Oct 31, 2022

On July 31st, 2022 in Jersey City, Jersey’s very own Alec Meza performed in a small warehouse on State Street at an event hosted by Warm Wax. With his sandy hair, Gucci Adidas tracksuit, and sunglasses Meza was no stranger to the stage.

Meza has a magnetic stage presence, immediately pulling audience members in starting off with the title track of his 2020 released album, Extra Virgin. Extra Virgin is a phenomenal debut that paints a transparent picture of Meza’s youth and his persona as an artist. His music is a good mix for Brockhampton and Mac Miller lovers. Spitting rhymes and singing is not enough for Alec Meza, he asserts a comfortable dominance and movement on stage exuding charisma. While performing his track “WHAT'S ON YA MIND?" he raps part of the song in acapella engrossing the crowd in his lyrical story about a crush “You follow me on insta so I’m instantly more insecure bout what to post and if the caption’s cool enough to get a yo / that was really sweet I saw you singing and I didn’t know / well yeah I got a voice and I could sing for you until we old.”

With a relatively laxed and smaller crowd, Alec Meza (along with his crew and band members, Pete Fenske, Nick Edwards, and Meni Moore) proves that he is there to put on a vibrant show. His contagious confidence and incredible performing abilities are what is so enticing about him as an artist. His ear catching lyrics instill a groovy energy within listeners.

Closing with his hit song Hot Boy Summer ( “We don’t get down like that / You shoot first we gon’ shoot right back”) brought a vivacious energy in the outdoor venue and fully conveyed the essence of Alec Meza’s entertaining stage power. This song also shows the prominence of music that is made with friends and the potential that an artist can achieve through the power of friendship and storytelling.
